class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Italian Military Geographic Institute (IGMI) provides geotopographic support to the units and commands of the Italian Army. The Institute is the cartographic body of the Italian State, according to N\u00b0 68 dated February 2, 1960, and operates under the Operational Land Forces Command. The Institute works, therefore, to provide its many users, both public and private, with authoritative cartographic products that offer a total guarantee in terms of content and official status for the description of the territory.   <\/p><p>The Institute&#8217;s main activities are:<\/p><ul><li>production, updating and releasing of medium- and small-scale cartography;<br>aerophotogrammetric coverage of the national territory;<\/li><li>realization and management of the geographic database;<\/li><li>maintenance of state borders;<\/li><li>preservation of national historical cartography.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>The Institute&#8217;s staff is actively involved in peace keeping operations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9eadec3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9eadec3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"cennistorici\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Historical Background<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0cab342 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0cab342\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>IGMI was established as the cartographic body of the Armed Forces, following the unification of Italy, in 1861. At the beginning, the Institute mainly supported the Army and the Defence, while nowadays it is the National Mapping Authority, thanks to the very high quality of its products and activities. As early as 1941, in a letter dated January 20, the Cabinet of the Ministry of War appointed IGMI General Director as Chief of the Delegations of the Joint Commissions for the Maintenance of the State Borders. In 1960, by Law N\u00b068, IGMI was established as the National Mapping Authority, and since then the cartography produced by the Institute is to be considered the State official cartography.   <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-885b36b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"885b36b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"istitutooggi\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Institute today<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b90238e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b90238e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As the Institute is both the Italian Army Mapping Authority and the National Mapping Authority, it is necessary to combine the geospatial requirements of the Ministry of Defence, also depending on the agreements signed with NATO, with those asked by national and EU regulations. In 2007, the European Union issued the INSPIRE Directive, which sets out the specific requirements for spatial data that member states must comply with in order to make geographic information and databases interoperable between them. IGMI activities have therefore a double nature because of the two tasks that are carried out and are the results of the International relations of Italy within the new International geostrategic framework.  <\/p><p>As the Institute has to carry out a multiplicity of tasks, it is playing an important role as a centre of production, study, collection and sales within the geographic information field (Cartography, Geodesy, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems). IGMI is also playing a key role in the international context because of its task of integration and standardization of the geographic information together with NATO and EU partners. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d76b932 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d76b932\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Production Department<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5c8cc1e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5c8cc1e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"come-fare\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Geodesy<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-519aa89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"519aa89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Realizing, updating, managing and maintaining (field measurements and data processing) the national geodetic networks such as: the National Dynamic Network (RDN), realized in accordance with the Prime Minister\u2019s Decree of November 10 2011 and the NRTK network (still at a design stage) that provides the real time GPS correction and high-precision leveling network;<\/li><li>maintaining, measuring and benchmarking of the state borders by means of periodic mapping on the ground, in accordance with the applicable bilateral International agreements. Taking part in the activities of Joint Commissions and groups of homologous experts established upon bilateral agreements, signed with the bordering nations and in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;<\/li><li>geophysical (gravimetry and earth\u2019s magnetism) and geodetic astronomy measuring;<\/li><li>processing and maintaining the transformation parameters within the different National Reference Systems (Roma 40, ED50, WGS84 and ETRS89);<\/li><li>checking, calibration and compliance reviewing of the geodetic instruments on behalf of third parties;<\/li><li>high precision measuring, useful for checking the stability of historical buildings and monitoring crustal and surface movements in case of national major events or natural disasters.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a89ed63 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a89ed63\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Cartography, Geographic Databases, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fe7cce7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fe7cce7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Production and updating of the State official cartography, at medium and small scale derived from Topographic Data Base (scale 1:50 000, scale 1:250 000, scale 1:1 000 000);<\/li><li>acquisition, derivation and integration of the regional data, in order to create, update and manage different Topographic Data Base (DBT) at medium and small scale (DBSN, ERM);<\/li><li>regular acquisition of high-resolution photogrammetric data of Italy through agreements with other public entities;<\/li><li>studies, researches and testing in Cartography and Topography along with universities and Italian\/European public entities.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9deaa6d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9deaa6d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Educational Department<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ba49f00 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ba49f00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Superior School of Geographic Sciences, sole entity at a National level, is in charge of carrying out the professional formation in Cartography and Topography. Foreign geographic organizations consider IGMI to be the National authority for production, distribution, standardization of geospatial products.<\/p><p>IGMI&#8217;s main activities are listed below:<\/p><ul><li>Signing of cooperation agreements with foreign organizations in order to share information and expertise in the geographic field;<\/li><li>signing of framework agreements as well as other acts and conventions with Regions, Provinces, Ministries and other private and public entities;<\/li><li>representing Italy at EUREF symposium (yearly organised) with its own geodetic networks: IGM95 and RDN; <\/li><li>participating to EuroGeographics activities, together with other 59 homologous authorities of 46 European countries.
