The Italian Military Geographic Institute holds a historical cartographic heritage consisting of about 36,000 maps, of which 8,000 date back to pre-unification period and 28,000 were produced starting from 1861.

Maps can be consulted online at https://igmi.esercito.difesa.it/carte-storiche/, or at the premises of the Cartographic Section, via Cesare Battisti 10, from 09.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m. on weekdays, by appointment.
